Unlike previous entries in the series, it is no longer required for a move to create a match of gems. When this occurs, the gems above it are affected by gravity, falling down and potentially creating cascades. Like its predecessors, the game involves attempting to create matches of three or more gems in a row to clear them from the board. Instead of swapping two adjacent gems, the player rotates four gems in a 2x2 space clockwise.

Twist makes me think and anticipate, and I’m not sure I want that in a casual game. What drew me to the original was the simplicity of the game, which made it easy to play without putting much thought into the moves. You’ll see patterns emerge, but Twist is initially more complicated because you have to keep tabs on four gems instead of one. This new twist changes your strategy what worked for the previous game won’t work for this one. Unlike the original Bejeweled where you swap one gem at a time, Bejeweled Twist allows you to rotate four gems clockwise. The goal is to get as many points as possible. New gems fall down to fill the board, and you continue until you have no more moves. Once a match is made, the gems “explode,” making a noise that’s as pleasing as the sounds from a winning slot machine. You earn points every time you match three or more gems, and if you get consecutive matches, your points grow exponentially. You have a square board of about 9 rows and 9 columns randomly filled with five different types of gems. If you’ve never played Bejeweled, it’s a simple game to learn. So when I got Bejeweled Twist on the Nintendo DS, I was excited to try it. I am again addicted, compulsively playing Bejeweled on Xbox to unlock achievements and on Facebook to knock my friend from the No. It’s the same Bejeweled, only more social because I can see what my friends’ scores are and try to beat them. I wasn’t online all hours of the day, so I forgot about it - until Bejeweled became available on XBox Live and Facebook.
After college, I stopped playing because it wasn’t convenient anymore. I played Bejeweled so much that the multicolored tiles in my dorm bathroom became a Bejeweled board. When work was light at my desk job, I would play some more. When I was writing essays in the library, I would sneak in games of Bejeweled. I spent enough time playing games such as Bejeweled and Collapsethat I might as well have majored in PopCap games during college.
